VE Group AU is a leading Queensland-based civil construction, transport company. We’re looking for an experienced Plant & Heavy Diesel Mechanic who is looking to expand their career and step into a Workshop Supervisor role at our North Tivoli (Ipswich) Depot, supporting the Maintenance Manager. and plant and transport operations across Queensland.

This position is the second in charge to the Maintenance Manager and plays a key role in running daily workshop operations, leading the team on the floor and taking charge and supporting the Maintenance Manager.

About the Role

As the Workshop Supervisor you will:

  • Lead daily workshop operations, job allocation and workflow
  • Supervise and support mechanics and subcontractors
  • Act as second in charge to the Maintenance Manager, assuming responsibility in their absence
  • Carry out hands-on plant diagnostics, servicing and repairs
  • Review defects and prioritise planned and reactive maintenance
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Administration/Planner, labour, parts and sequencing to minimise downtime
  • Ensure accurate completion of work orders and maintenance records
  • Maintain high standards of safety and quality of workshop areas
  • Support continuous improvement across workshop systems and processes
  • Provide clear communication between workshop team and management

This is a hands-on mechanic and leadership role, not a desk-only position.

What We’re Looking For

You will ideally have:

  • Australian-recognised Plant and Heavy Diesel Mechanic trade qualification
  • Proven experience as a Leading Hand, Workshop Supervisor or senior Plant Mechanic
  • Strong experience with heavy plant and equipment and/or heavy diesel fleet
  • Confidence to run the workshop day-to-day
  • A strong safety mindset and pride in quality workmanship
  • Ability to lead, mentor and support a team
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Practical problem-solver with a collaborative approach
  • High energy, organised and proactive leadership style
  • Good communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with maintenance systems and documentation (desirable)
